Injuries and Lameness Diagnosed via Radiology and Ultrasounds

Digital imaging, including ultrasounds and radiographs are used to diagnose a variety of conditions and ailments in horses. Common conditions diagnosed include broken bones, joint problems, soft tissue injuries, and dental disease.

Ultrasound Imaging

Ultrasound imaging involves using sound waves to create an image on a monitor. When the wand passes over an injured area of your horse, we are able to find hidden problems like joint, tendon, muscle and ligament injuries. Also detect tumors, cysts, and abscesses on certain area of the horse. Most importantly discover any late pregnancies or twins. Ultrasound imaging is completely painless and does not have any side-effects.

Radiographs

The common term for a radiograph is an x-ray. These images can help diagnose problems and conditions with the bones, joints, and teeth; such as broken bones, swelling in the joints, broken/fractured teeth and other types of bone abnormalities. X-rays can also be used to horse’s in need of corrective shoeing.
